Stereotypes
Stereotypes
We all fall victim to them
We all may be used to them
We all may judge by them
The white guy has to be
The sky diver
The black dude is a thug
The Jewish man is an accountant
20 Mexicans in a bug.
Why cant we let go
Of this so called born identity
Sometimes I feel like
I'm broken-between a torn identity
I'm a thug
If I sag
If they're tight
I'm a fairy
If I talk proper
With clear diction
Then I'm acting white
That's pulp fiction
Sometimes I feel like
I have to like rap
To prove my black hood
Or I have to shoot a dude
To prove to the people what's really hood
My skin tone
Deep chocolate-like an African
Prince in Egypt
Visiting the land
Of ambassadors
For his people-like from long ago!
No sagging pants
Nor music
Can tell the half of my heritage
And the struggles I have seen
Sometimes I feel
Like this dark skin is a tattoo
Full of collages and images
Of the wars and struggles just to survive
To try and see the lighted horizon
Every time the sun may rise
The tears in my eyes
Caused as this certain tattoo
Was etched into my memory
June 2, 1999
My older brother lost his life
Killed by people who
Looked like him
Walked like him
Talked like him
Now my thoughts are like him
Yeah, dead and buried-no worries
These people were torn
To identify with the streets
Yet were born to be doctors,
Lawyers, teachers, not grim reapers
Not to follow the crazy preaching
From the crazy street preachers
To shoot basket ball with the Lakers
Not perform feats with street sweepers!
People must understand that…
We all are destined for greatness
Not one race is more superior than the other
No need for an inferiority complex
Yet our mind should be open
With morals as high as the duplex
I- no longer torn to fit in
With the big men
Try to remain humble
And low to earth like short men
Cause before I was born black-
I was born a man
My minds mature
No longer juvenile
Like the story of Peter Pan
Let every man
Hold hands and rejoice
Cause I was born before I was torn
If you want to remain torn
Then that is your choice!
