A wise old soul
Once told me, to keep trying
To keep striving
To be the best within myself
And that no cars nor wealth
Could ever match to the value-
Of the inner beauty
Not even the prettiest cutie-
Well
I believe we all have to rise
From the bondage that locks the mind,
So the body must follow
So we have to-
Un lock our mind,
And let a little wisdom inside
To attack the places where
Our ignorance lay hidden
People are too obsessed
With rims on the cars
And consumed with gov't funding
On criminals behind bars
Yet our future generations
Have school buildings looking like the slums of Harlem
Projects to spend money to make more of it
Yet they reject the school funding
They say they can’t afford it
And they wonder why we have people
Who are dumb, stupid, and unlettered
A breed of criminals
From hidden messages subliminal
Cause the government refuses to help make our children better.
Old books, old desks,
Old teachers, a new mess
We need to pray for a God bless
To not suffer from a cerebral complex
I would love for every voice to sing
To remain in nuptials morally like the union of
A wedding ring- symbolically speaking,
I am seeking a higher calling
A higher meaning of what life truly is
No more living in divisions
Divided like 3 by 6
Which are two
If anything our divisions
Should receive a quotient of like 1
Like 1 race, 1 people, 1 union
1 love-all under the premise that before we are
Of a defined ethnicity or nationality
We were all born human!
Born to be great
Born to succeed
Born to bear children with a chance for equality
A chance that they too someday may be difference makers
Trendsetters, role models, and leaders of another generation
To see a brighter future!
Yet, our future is on the brink of extermination
No nation under God-but a nation under them presidents
You know, the Benjamins, Abe Lincolns, and Woodrow Wilsons!
We need to free ourselves of this slave master
Driving whips that pierce flesh that seeks selfish gain
We need to relive our selves of this chronic struggle
Take love’s medication to relieve the pain
To all my Black, White, Asian, Haitian,
Mexicans and other nationalities
Let’s learn to love one another
We all are either sisters or a brother
To another, and that’s the freedom that
I would love to experience
When a color nor a culture
No longer causes a hindrance!
Once told me, to keep trying
To keep striving
To be the best within myself
