::Thinking:: Here we go again. Every time Yelina comes in from spending the money I give her, the first thing she does is get ready for a “night out” with her girls.
“Damn, Lina. I thought we could spend the night at home for a change…you know…me and you.”, I sighed as I followed her into our bedroom.
“Sweetie, I’m sorry; but the girls and I are celebrating Kika’s pregnancy. We can spend some time alone tomorrow night.”
“Kika’s pregnant again?! Dang, you’ve only known her a year since I brought you back with me and this is her 2nd pregnancy already!”, I huffed with a shake of my head.
“Well all I can say is that she doesn’t waste time.”, she giggled while glancing at me from over her shoulder as she put her new wardrobe away in the closet. However, when she saw me sitting on the edge of the bed with a pissed and hurt look on my face, she quickly made her way over to me.
“Lina, what’s really goin’ on?”, I found myself bluntly asking her as she sat down across my lap.
“What are you talkin’ about?”
::Thinking:: Don’t act dumb! You KNOW what I’m talking about! Why can’t you be more like Cherish was? She always enjoyed being with me and didn’t care about spending my money like it grew on trees.
“Nothin’.”, I sighed with a shake of my head as I stood up while gently pushing her off my lap.
“Admit it…you still have feelings for her don’t you?”
I immediately froze in my tracks while heading out of the room. I slowly turned around to face her.
“Who?”, I asked with an innocent look on my face.
“Nick, I’m not stupid. For the past two weeks since we’ve been to that wedding of your FRIEND’S sister, it’s like you’ve been in another world.”, she snapped while placing her hands on her hips and staring at me with narrowed eyes.
::Thinking:: Yeah and? If you hadn’t went through my mail and saw the invitation, I probably could’ve gotten away with going to the wedding by myself to try to win Cherish back and leave your money-hungry ass in the process.
“How many times do I have to tell you that Cherish and I are only good friends?”, I huffed as I rolled my eyes up towards the ceiling while despising the fact that I have to lie about what Cherish and I had in the past.
“Good friends don’t remember every lil’ detail about EVERYTHING. All I’ve been hearin’ lately is ’Cherish used to like.’, ’Cherish didn’t like.’, ’Cherish used to say this.’, ’Cherish would never say that.’ Call me crazy, but I think she’s the one that you used to talk about all the time before we actually started goin’ out.”
For several seconds, we stood in silence while staring at each other.
“Yelina, believe what you want. I’m goin’ out for a while. Have a nice time with your FRIENDS.”
With that, I walked back into the living room, grabbed my jacket and slammed the front door shut behind me. As soon as I was behind the wheel of my ride, I pulled a slip of paper out that I had hidden inside the back of my CD wallet and stared at Cherish’s new address that was scribbled on it. Maybe it was wrong of me to hound her moms for it a couple of days after the wedding, but I was trying to find some way to sincerely apologize to her once and for all. Before thinking twice about it, I headed over to her place.

“Negro, you are TOO crazy!”, Cherish laughed as she and Millie talked on the phone. He had called her up to see if tomorrow would be a good time for them to go shopping for some clothes for a new actress that would be written into “Lies, Passions, and Love” on next week. However, at the moment he was telling her about some dude he was checking out earlier in the afternoon while he was getting his dreads freshened up at the neighborhood braiding salon.
“C’mon, man. You can do this.”, I whispered to myself as I stood in front of Cherish’s apartment door. After calming myself, I proceeded to ring her bell. Several seconds later, she and I stood face-to-face as she continued to hold the phone up to her ear.
“Hey.”, she nearly whispered to me. “Ummm…Millie? Look, lemme call you back lata. I have company right now.”
“Who is it?”, he asked.
“Business!”, she snapped while closing the door after I stepped inside. “Like I said, I’ll call you back lata.”
“It betta not be who I THINK it is!”
“Bye, Millie.”, she sighed before quickly hanging up on him before he could say anything else.
“I didn’t come at a bad time did I?”, I faintly smiled while looking or rather staring at her.
“Ummm…no…ummmm…I wasn’t really doin’ anything except workin’ on a paintin’.”, she faintly smiled back as she leaned her back up against the door. “How did you find out where I stay?”
“Well, I kinda bugged Momma Burton for it because I wanted to come apologize to you.”
“Oh? About what?”, she asked as she walked ahead of me. As she made her way over to her canvas and painting supplies to put them away, I felt my jaw drop to the floor as I witnessed how her cargo pants clung to her.
::Thinking:: Damn! Who been giving you backshots since me to make you have a booty like that now?!
“Nick? What did you want to apologize to me about?”, she asked with raised eyebrows after turning around to look at me.
“Oh…well ummm…I didn’t get to tell you how I REALLY felt a couple of weeks ago at the wedding. I mean I wanted to, but it was definitely bad timin’ about it.”
“Oh that. Look, Nick…you were right. You had to move on with your life and I’ve finally realized that I have to move on with mine. So it’s no need for you to apologize about somethin’ that’s meant to be. I’m coo’ with things now.”
“But it’s deeper than that, Cherish.”, I sighed as I stood in front of her.
“How so?”
“I made a mistake by askin’ Yelina to marry me. All I can say is that I was tryna find some way to fill the void in my life after I was dumb enough to actually force you to end things between us.”
“Oh.” I watched her as she lowered her eyes to the floor while biting her bottom lip.
“So do you forgive me for what I did?”, I whispered as I stepped closer to her.
She proceeded to slowly nod her head while forcing her eyes to look up at me. “Yeah…I…I guess so.”
I noticed how she began to twist the hem of her t-shirt in between her fingers like she’s always done whenever she became nervous or upset about something. Before she had a chance to lower her head back down, I caught her chin in between my fingers to make her keep her head up. Without either one of us saying a word, I gave her lips a soft peck with mine.
“So are we on good terms again?”, I smiled when I stepped back to look at her.
“Yeah.”, she smiled back with a quick nod of her head.
::Thinking:: Oh shit. I gotta make a break for it because Junior has woke up! I’m saying...because I can finally admit that I still have feelings for Cherish I’m, technically, still with Yelina. It would be wrong of me to take advantage of this situation right now.
“Well I guess I’ll be goin’ for now. I think I’ll go hang out with the guys for a while. Like I said, I juss wanted to make things right between us again. You take care, okay?”, I quickly stated while backing up for the door.
“Okay.”, she replied with a puzzled look as she walked with me over to the door. “Maybe you, Yelita, and I could go out to dinner or somethin’ soon. She seems like a nice girl.”
::Thinking:: Girl, why you lying?!
“Really?”, I asked with a smirk. “Oh, and juss to let’chu know, it’s YeLINA.”
We both started laughing.
“I know.”, she stated with a shake of her head. “Anyway, I guess I’ll talk to you soon. Bye.”
“Bye.”
As soon as she closed the door behind me, I jetted for my ride so I could go home and take a cold shower.
In the meantime, Cherish was back in her place stripping out of her clothes as she ran for the bathroom. “Damn! I haven’t had to take a cold shower in a minute!”, she huffed.
