ASHANTI LANDS FIRST MOVIE ROLE: Flick will star Samuel L. Jackson. *OK all you Ashanti haters, we've got bad news for you. Homegirl has scored a role in "Coach Carter," a new flick starring Samuel L. Jackson, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
The Paramount Pictures project revolves around Richmond (Calif.) High School coach Ken Carter, who made national news in 1999 when he benched his entire undefeated basketball team for poor academic performance. He forfeited two league games and made the gym off-limits until students raised their grades, a move that drew praise and criticism from parents and school officials.
The Reporter says Ashanti will play Kyra, the newly pregnant girlfriend of one of the basketball players to be played by Rob Brown of "Finding Forrester" fame.
The Grammy nominated singer will start shooting the film this month. Thomas Carter ["Save the Last Dance"] will direct.Sounds like this will be a pretty good flick. I'll prolly end up checkin' it out.
