It’s been a month and two weeks since Stanley’s been in the hospital. Although he’s still in intensive care, everyone was pleased to hear that he had quickly regained some movement in the top portion of his body. I have God, Gran’ma, and our church family to thank for this. However, he still wouldn’t walk again, but hey, one miracle can surely make way for another one. Now if I could only convince him of this.
For the past few minutes, I’ve listened to Stanley feeling sorry for himself. He jumps from God is punishing him for his way of living to how even though his family shows their love and concern for him, they have always given him the impression that their embarrassed by him to how he knows that he’ll never find “Mr. Right” because of the permanent health condition he’s faced with to worrying about what he was going to do with his shop although my other co-workers were doing a good job with keeping business up as usual with it. Well enough is enough of this.
“Stanley! You’re still here because God answered the prayers of all those who DO love and care for you. Have you ever looked at it that way?”, I sighed as I stood up from my chair next to his bed. I proceeded to gently rub the top of his head that had sprouted a month’s worth of fuzz.
“Yeah, right!”, he replied with a suck of his teeth as he slowly turned his head to look out of the window.
“Listen, boo. I can only imagine how you’re feelin’ right now, but you have to turn all this negativity you’re experiencin’ into somethin’ positive.”
“You’re juss sayin’ that sh!t to make me feel betta.”, he quietly huffed while continuing to look out of the window.
I couldn’t help from smiling before chuckling. “What’s that favorite quote of yours by Mary? Oh yeah…’That’s juss Satan. fvck you Satan, I mean I rebuke you in the name of Jesus!’”
Stanley turned his head to look at me as a big grin spread across his face. “Leave it to you, Trout.”
“I’m juss sayin’. Think of that wheneva you start feelin’ down. You’re gonna make it through, Stan. And you know why?”
“Why?”, he sighed as he eyes glanced up at the ceiling.
“Because you have love from me and your other friends. Maybe it’s not the kind you’d like to have, but hell love is love.”, I smiled while gently taking a hold of his hand that was resting across his stomach. However, I was careful not to touch the IV that was placed in it.
For several seconds, the room was filled with silence as I watched tears spilling from his eyes.
I leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on his forehead and started singing some of his favorite song:
“With you I find/I can close my eyes/To the world surroundin’ me/And you create/The sweetest place/That I could ever be/I’m really lovin’ you/Not pretendin’ to/If I don’t love you this way/Oooh why do I say what I say/Yeah yeah/If I don’t need you this much/Ooooh why do I ache for your touch/You just have this smile/That makes my life worthwhile/And that explains everything you give/If I don’t love you this way/Oooh why do I say what I say/Yeah/If I don’t need you this much/Oooh why do I ache for your touch/Yeah…”
While I was really getting into it, Stanley interrupted me.
“Ummmmm…boo-boo, you need to leave the singin’ to the Queen ‘cause yo’ off-key sangin' ass ain’t cuttin’ it!”, he laughed while slowly shaking his head.
“That was some of my best work, foo’!”, I laughed back while playfully poppin’ him on top of the head with my opened palm. “But it’s good to see that smile again."
“Thanks.”, he chuckled before he struggled with lifting my hand up to his face since he was still somewhat weak. “I love you.”
“I love you too, friend.”, I smiled before I leaned forward once more, this time, to give his lips a light peck. “Well, it looks like my fifteen minutes are up. But I’ll be back to visit ya lata on in the week.”
“Okay, Miss Thing. Bye.”
“Buh bye.”
I decided to go back to Gran’ma’s house to visit her and Ma for a while since Boris was out playing golf with some of his friends.
