DA BRAT CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT: Rapper accused of smashing bottle over a woman's head.
Da Brat found herself in handcuffs early Thursday after she was accused of smashing a bottle over the head of a waitress at Jermaine Dupri's Atlanta-area nightclub.
DeKalb County Police say the 33-year-old rapper, born Shawntae Harris, was charged with aggravated assault in the incident, which took place at about 1:20 a.m. early Thursday.
According to the police report, the 24-year-old waitress got into a shoving match with Da Brat after the rap star accused the woman of bumping into her. At some point, the waitress walked away, but moments later, the rapper allegedly grabbed a bottle of rum and hit the woman in the face.
The victim was driven to a local hospital, where she was treated for a deep laceration to the cheek and some swelling above her eye socket, police said.
The first female rapper to have a platinum-selling album, Da Brat has appeared on the VH1 reality shows "Celebrity Fit Club" and "The Surreal Life"; and most recently served as a judge on MTV's "Celebrity Rap Superstar."
UPDATE:
Da Brat was released late thursday night from DeKalb county jail after posting a $50,000 bond. Daaaang...

^^^ Anyhoo... UPDATE...
DA BRAT SUED BY ALLEGED ASSAULT VICTIM: Shayla Stevens hires famous attorneys following rum bottle attack.
The woman who was allegedly cracked over the head with a rum bottle by Da Brat has hired prominent attorneys Willie Gary and CK Hoffler and their firm, Gary, Williams, Finney, Lewis, Watson and Sperando P.L. to represent her in a lawsuit.
Shayla Stevens, a cheerleader for the Atlanta Falcons, has retained the Florida-based firm to go after the rapper, born Shawntae Harris, as well as Jermaine Dupri's new nightclub Studio 72, where the alleged incident took place.
As previously reported, Da Brat is accused of striking Stevens with a 1.7 liter bottle of rum during a shoving match in the club on Nov. 1.
"Our client was physically attacked by Da Brat and has suffered significant head injuries, permanent disfigurement as well as mental distress," Gary said, adding that Stevens has suffered permanent injuries to her face, as well as possible neurological damage.
"Ms. Stevens is a cheerleader, choreographer, dancer, actress and entrepreneur, whose career has been greatly affected by this incident," Gary said of his client, adding in a press release that she also graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee.
Gary claims the owners of Club 72, hesitated to contact police due to the negative publicity the assault would cause. He also said that security had the chance to toss Da Brat from the club, but failed to do so.
Da Brat was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. She's currently free on $50,000 bond.
Gary, meanwhile, is nicknamed "The Giant Killer" for his judgments against corporations, one of which was a $240 million jury verdict against Walt Disney for stealing his client's idea for a sports theme park. Also, Gary was awarded $18.28 million against the media conglomerate Gannett Company for the false portrayal of their client in a series of newspaper articles.Well dang.
