Close to a month later, things haven’t really changed much. It was still hard to keep in touch with Mario although Charli would keep a close eye on him for me anyway when they had rehearsals; and yeah I know I’m wrong for having her do this for me when I’m messing around with Thugsy now, but I can’t help it if I have still grown to have some feelings for Mario. As far as Daddy goes, I haven’t spoken to him anymore since the infamous night at dinner when he broke the news to me and Mian that he was getting remarried. And when it comes to Thugsy, he and I have been getting together on the weekends that he comes down to Baltimore with his boys to make a quick pick-up or drop-off. However, he wants me to come back to New York to live with him until he’s able to get things situated; once he does this he said we could move back to his home in St. Louis. But I have to constantly drill in his head that I wasn’t about to drop out now that I’m in my last year of college after coming so far. Besides, half of a semester is nearly over with and I only have one more to go. Plus I don’t want to leave my family and friends behind to run off with him although it’s hard not to.
“We don’t need to sit in on a Saturday night lookin’ at each otha,” Charli sighed as we sat in her dorm room as she stretched out across her bed. She was a little down because Cassidy went home to Philadelphia for the weekend.
“Well, it’s really nothin’ to do here but the same ol’ same ol’,” Mian sighed as well with a shrug of her shoulders from the floor in the corner where she was sitting while sending Shad a third text message since she hadn’t heard from him all day. On the day before, he told her that he had to go to Ohio to deal with a family situation. However, every time Mian tried to call him to see if everything was okay, she couldn’t get an answer.
“True,” I replied with a nod of my head while sitting at Charli’s roommate’s desk flipping through a Vibe magazine.
“Girl, this is the first weekend we’ve seen you in almost a month, so your statement doesn’t even count,” Charli chuckled.
“Anyway,” I blushed as I glanced up at her for a second. “But since it’s early, we can always go to that club up in DC that I was tellin’ yall about that Thugsy took me to a few weekends ago. It was off the chain up in there.”
“Hmmm…well at least it would be a change of scenery,” Charli replied with a nod of head as she sat up. “What’chu think, Mian?”
“I’m coo’ with it if yall are,” she stated.
“Okay, well since it’s a lil’ after seven, should we meet back up around nine? That way we’ll have time to shower and change. Oh yeah…do yall want me to drive?” Charli suggested.
“I can since I’m the one who suggested that we go there,” I stated. I noticed that Mian and Charli both gave me a skeptical look.
“What’chall lookin’ at me like that for?”
“Are you sure that your ride will get us there and back because I’m juss sayin’,” Charli smirked while glancing over at Mian. They both started giggling.
“Look, I can always take my damn self and let you two hoes figga out how to get there.”
“Girl, calm your ass down,” Mian chuckled as she stood up from the floor. “Anyway, Kian and I can come back to pick you up.”
“Okay…or how about this? I can drive out to my mother’s place in a few minutes which is only like 30 minutes from DC and I can juss meet yall at the spot. That way you won’t have to make any stops. Kian, you can give me the directions on how to get there. And if it’s too late when we finish gettin’ our club-on, yall can crash on the sofa bed that my mother has in the den.”
“Sounds good to me, but honestly it’s no trouble to pick you up on our way there from here,” I smiled.
“Nah, it’s coo’. I juss feel like visitin’ my mother and lil’ brother since they’re up that way,” Charli smiled back.
“Okay, well when we’re nearby, I’ll give you a call. Lata.” Mian and I proceeded to stand up to leave to go home and get ready for our girl’s night out that we hadn’t had in a long, long time.

“Charliza, baby, what are you doin’ here?” her mother asked in pleasant surprise when she opened the door for her. They immediately hugged each other.
“Hi, ma. I’m meeting two friends from school up in DC in a lil’ while and decided to drop in to see you and Lil’ Man and to ask if it’s okay for my friends and I to stay overnight in case we’re out a lil’ too late?”
“Of course you can. Come on in.”
“There’s my baby!” Charli exclaimed when she saw her three-year-old son, Jontez, sitting on the floor of the den playing with a few of his toy cars.
“Mommy!” he grinned while standing up and running to her.
“Ooooh, my baby is gettin’ so big! I’ve missed you so much,” she sighed while picking him up and holding him close to her. She closed her eyes and gently rubbed his back for what seemed like an eternity while her mother watched them.
However, on the inside, Charli felt guilty about having to tell her friends that she had a three-year-old brother who was actually her son that she had during her second year of college. The only other person that knew she had a son besides her mother, who was taking care of him until she graduated college, was her child’s father who just happened to be Juelz.
She met him at our college’s homecoming when he came down to Baltimore to handle some business and they hit it off quickly. Within a few months of hanging out with him whenever he came down from New York to visit her, she wound up pregnant. At first, she thought about having an abortion and not mentioning it to anyone including Juelz. But then her conscience wouldn’t let her do it. So she gave Juelz an ultimatum once she told him about her pregnancy: if she was having the baby he was going to have to give up hustling, but of course he wasn’t having that even though he told her that he was going to be there to take care of his. This wasn’t good enough for Charli though so she told him that until he could give up the street life, he wouldn’t be able to see his child because she didn’t want Juelz to be a bad influence on their son. And she also didn’t want her child to get too attached to him since there was a big chance that Juelz’ life could be lost in the streets at any time.

“Damn, I forgot to get some gas earlier,” I huffed when Mian and I climbed in my ride to head to DC. As soon as I turned it on, I noticed that the needle was near E.
“Oh well, I guess you’ll juss have to have the wonderful scent of gasoline mixed in with your dollar store body wash,” she joked.
“Shut up,” I snapped as we made our way down to the neighborhood convenient mart so I could fill my ride up.
Several minutes later after pulling up to a gas pump, I had to carefully climb down out of my jeep so I wouldn’t give the people on the other side of the pump a sneak peek of my thong that Mian had encouraged me to buy and wear with the black silk Chanel halter-dress that Thugsy bought home for me on the last weekend he came to see me. As soon as my black Chanel stiletto heels that Thugsy bought along with the dress for me hit the pavement, I had to stand still and tug at my dress for a quick sec because it felt like it had rode up in my butt along with these damn thongs. I was about to grab the gas pump until I glanced at the cardboard sign stuck on the top of it saying that one had to pay before pumping after 7:00 p.m. Well, since it was after 9:00, I had no choice but to tell Mian to hand me my purse so I could go inside to pay before I could fill ol’ Sally up.
“Got damn!” I heard a male voice exclaim from the car that was on the other side of the pump.
I took a quick glance over my shoulder and noticed some dude in the passenger seat watching me. I smirked and turned back around continuing to make my way inside the store.
In the meantime, the driver who climbed out of the car next to us happened to glance inside my ride and saw Mian sitting in the passenger seat. He immediately turned to his boy in the passenger seat and told him to go inside to pay for the gas. As soon as he was left alone, he decided to holla at her.
“W’sup, ma,” he grinned while flashing a beautiful grin at her.
When she looked up from sending Shad yet another text message, she saw a handsome, chocolate-covered man grinning her way.
“Hi,” she faintly smiled while blushing.
“So I know you don’t have a man because if you did, he would be outta his damn mind to let you out of his sight lookin’ that good,” he chuckled.
“I’m sorry to tell you but I do have a man,” she smirked.
“Shit, that’s just my luck then, huh?”
“I guess,” she smiled with a shrug of her shoulders.
“Well, are you happy with him?”
“Yes, VERY happy. He’s my everything.”
“Damn, it’s always the fine ones that seem to get away from me,” he joked.
Meanwhile, I had just stepped outside to make my way back across the parking lot to pump my gas when a car turned into the parking space directly in front of me. As I was stepping down off the curb, I noticed that it was Mario and Kalia. I wasn’t going to say one mumbling word to him as he opened his door and stepped out of his ride. I was just about to walk past him when he spoke.
“Kian, is that you? Damn!”
When I stopped and slightly turned around to look at him, I almost laughed out loud at how he was staring at me. But I enjoyed the attention, nevertheless.
“Hi, Mario.”
He stood speechless for a good two seconds longer as his look of surprise changed into a sly grin. “Where you off to lookin’ like that?”
“My girls and I decided to have a girl’s night out, so…”, I started until Kalia leaned over in her seat to loudly honk on Mario’s horn.
When he turned around to look at her, she leaned further over until her head was just outside his window.
“We’re gonna be late for the movies if you don’t hurry up and get what you gotta get for us for lata on!” She proceeded to cut her eyes over at me while I stood smirking at her.
“I think your FRIEND is in a bit of a hurry, and so am I. Maybe I’ll see you around. Have fun,” I slyly grinned at him before turning and walking back over to my ride with the grace and poise of a supermodel now that I had learned how to walk in stilettos with the best of them.
As Mario continued to stare at me walk away, the same guy who had been bothering me in the store earlier walked out and saw him.
“That’s fine as shit, right?” the pest laughed with a nod of his head while giving Mario a friendly pat in the chest with the back of his hand before following me back over to the pumps.
“Mario!” Kalia nearly screamed when she saw him still standing in the same spot.
“What?! I’m goin’,” he huffed as he turned to walk inside the store while glancing over his shoulder at me for one last time.
When I saw ol’ dude out of the corner of my eye approaching me as I was grabbing the nozzle from the pump, I had to quickly speak up.
“Look, don’t make me hurt you!” I warned as I turned around and jammed my nozzle into my tank without giving him as much as a glance.
“Forget you then!” he huffed as he walked over to the other side of the pump to get back in the car.
The guy who had been trying to holla at Mian began to pump his gas as well while looking back and forth at us.
“Are you two related?” he asked with a small grin after looking back inside at Mian.
“Actually we’re twins,” she smirked with a shake of her head.
“Duh,” I mumbled under my breath before chuckling as I turned around to place the nozzle back in the pump.
As soon as I carefully climbed back up in my ride and started it up, I sped out of the parking lot so we could make it to the club in time since all ladies would get in free before 11:00.
