“No, Tay! N-O, NO!” I angrily jumped up from the sofa where I had been sitting while talking or rather arguing with my best friend, Taylor, to go in the kitchen to get myself something to drink. She had just informed me that she and her man, Dreux, had set me up on a blind date with one of his friends that would be coming into town for the weekend. Their idea was for the four of us to go out on a double-date to dinner and then a movie or something.
“C’mon, Sky,” she pleaded. “You know you owe me anyway.”
“Owe you what?” I sucked my teeth as I leaned up against my kitchen counter before taking a big gulp of kool-aid.
“Remember last week when I loaned you that extra $10 you needed to get that Louis Vuitton bag you wanted when Babydoll came in the shop with her weekly goods out of her trunk while we were gettin’ our hair done?”
“Yeah, and? When I said I ‘owe you’ I meant payin’ you back or treatin’ you to lunch before the end of this week. I didn’t mean that I’d go out on a blind date with some negro that may end up bein’ some psycho-stalker or somethin’!”
“My boo doesn’t have any friends that are psycho-stalkers,” she huffed into the phone. “And anyway his friend is a lil’ down about a recent breakup he went through so Dreux thought it’d be nice if he could introduce you to him since you’re coo’ peoples with us.”
“Oh! So now this guy is lookin’ for some rebound booty?! Girl, please! Thanks, but no thanks!” I was about to hang up the phone until Taylor went off on me.
“Why don’tchu get a damn grip on reality?! Shit! Not EVERY dude you meet or bound to meet is out to get the booty! Plus from what I’ve been told, ol’ boy really has his shit together. He just graduated college a couple of months ago and he’s already started his own bus…ummm…I mean…” Taylor had said quite a mouthful.
“Did you say he just GRADUATED college?” There was silence on the other end so I continued on. “What in the devil made yall think I’d wanna go out with a damn baby?!”
Taylor took a deep sigh before answering. “Look, what’s 10 years give or take? I mean, I’m 3 years older than Dreux.” She was so nonchalant with her reply that it pissed me off even more.
“There’s a big damn difference between 3 years and TEN! So no, n…no HELL no; I’m not agreein’ to this date!” With that I hung up and was on my way back to the living room to watch the rest of a rerun of “King of Queens” when my doorbell started to frantically ring.
“Who is it?!” I jumped up and marched over to the door.
“Just open the door!” I recognized Taylor’s voice right away. Since she's within a 3-minute walking distance to my apartment, she made it over in no time flat.
“I thought I juss hung up on you?” I smirked after opening the door to let her in.
“Yeah, well until you started goin’ off like a damn foo’ and forgot, I told you I was on my way over here since you DID invite me to come and watch ‘Madea Goes to Jail’.”
“Oh yeah. My bad,” I lightly chuckled before we both started giggling. “I’m also sorry for hangin’ up on you, and well…since I do OWE you, I guess I can go out with you, Dreux, and his friend. Hopefully it won’t be a total disaster.” I shrugged my shoulders as we sat back down next to each other on the sofa.
“Thanks, friend,” she chuckled as she gave me a playful hug.
“Whateva,” I chuckled back while shrugging her off of me.

“C’mon, man! I’m tellin’ you…my girl’s friend is on point. Even for somebody her age,” Dreux sighed as he and Omarion sat together in Dreux’s den playing with his X-Box.
Omarion immediately stopped pressing the buttons on his controller and glared over at him. “Her age? How the hell old is this female you’re talkin’ about?!”
“She’s not that old,” Dreux replied with a shrug of his shoulders as he continued to play the game. He was afraid that if he looked over at Omarion he would start laughing.
“How old though?”
“Eh, give or take about 27…33…,” he mumbled with another shrug of his shoulders.
Omarion jumped up dropping the controller to the floor. “WHAT?! Nigga is you crazy?!! Yeah, I’ve been out with older females once or twice, but dammit, they ain’t neva been THAT damn old!” When he saw Dreux fall out laughing he really went off. “What the fuck is so funny about this?!”
“Man, you’re overreactin'. If you didn’t know from me, I’d swear you’d think she was only like 25. I’m serious.” Dreux was holding his stomach by this time as he continued to laugh while looking up at him.
“I thought you was my boy,” Omarion snapped as he flopped back down. He sat in silence for a few seconds while biting his bottom lip before looking over at his long-time friend who was still chuckling as he went back to playing the game. “But you’re fo’real when you say she don’t look bad at all?”
“Yeah. Trust me, O,” he grinned as he glanced over at him for a second.
“I wouldn’t use those words right now if I was you seein’ how you set me up in the first place,” he smirked before they both started laughing as he picked his controller back up.

“And don’t we look nice?” Taylor giggled. She was really beginning to get on my nerves as we stood in my bedroom getting ready for what would probably be my blind date from hell.
“Shut up,” I snapped as I stepped into my red slide-on high-heeled sandals. As far as the rest of my outfit, I decided to wear a red and gold halter top that tied up at the back of my neck and a pair of my favorite blue jeans.
“What? You do,” she smiled while trying to look all innocent.
“Whateva,” I replied with a suck of my teeth. I walked over to my dresser to grab my large gold-hoop earrings when my doorbell rang. “Dang, they’re here already.” I let out a deep sigh while hurriedly trying to put my earrings through my ear so I could go ahead and get this night over with already.
“I’ll go get it.” Taylor quickly left my bedroom to answer the door.
About five minutes later, she came running back in my room while I took one more look at myself in the full-length mirror on the inside of my closet door.
“Girllllllllllllllll, you are NOT gonna be disappointed with ol’ boy. Hurry up and let’s be out!” She grabbed up to my arm damn near pulling it out of the socket.
“Can I please get my bag first? Sheesh,” I huffed with a roll of my eyes as I broke out of her grip to pick up my handbag from the bed.
“Well hurry up,” she whispered as she went back into the living room.
Before leaving my room, I stopped in the doorway, closed my eyes, took a deep breath, and then put on one of my biggest and most fake smiles ever.
“Hello,” I chimed as I stepped into the living room several seconds later. However, as soon as Omarion and I made contact we both started laughing.
“Oh my god! I know that ain’t that bad-ass lil’ boy, Omari, from the youth center!”
“Yup, it’s me!” He stood up and headed for me as I headed for him. As soon as we were mere inches apart, we grabbed each other up in a big bear hug as we continued to laugh.
Taylor and Dreux were dumbfounded as they looked at one another before standing up from the loveseat. She loudly cleared her throat while waving her arms. “Ummm…excuse me, but are we missin’ somethin’ here?” When I looked behind Omarion, Taylor and Dreux both had puzzled looks on their faces while watching us.
Slightly stepping out of Omarion’s embrace although we continued to hold each other, I grabbed his chin and gave it a gentle squeeze while he blushed. “I used to be one of the youth counselors for his age group when I worked at the center a couple of years ago. He hasn’t changed much except for the goatee and braids. Don’t let this face fool ya though because he used to raise all kinds of hell down there! I used to come home every night with migraines after dealin' with him and those otha lil' terrors he rolled with.”
We all laughed including him although he began to blush even harder.
“C’mon, now…you know you were the meanest counselor up in there so we couldn’t hardly get away with nothin’,” he smirked with a shake of his head. “We always had to wait until your back was turned.”
“That’s what I know; but hopefully, you’re not as mischievous anymore,” I smiled before tapping his nose with my finger and stepping all the way out of his embrace.
“Alrighty then. So I guess we can head out to get our grub on now,” Dreux suggested while opening the door. Taylor and I stepped outside ahead of him and Omarion. However, before they stepped outside, Omarion walked up to him and gave him a friendly punch on the arm.
“Hey, man…I can’t explain things to you right now, but lemme just say thanks for the hook-up,” he whispered with a sly grin.
“Coo’,” Dreux grinned back before shutting my door.
As I stepped back up to it to lock the bolt lock, I couldn’t help from smiling to myself while being amused that out of all of the guys in the world to go out on a blind date with, it would end up being the last person I expected.
