Jamie Foxx
He hosted this year. He was so funny. I knew he was gonna do a good job. But there seems some times like he didn't know what going on since it was live. This year it was basically a tribute to Michael Jackson. So every time you saw Jamie he was wearing MJ clothes. I thought he performed too many times though.
Keri Hilson
Im really not a fan of hers. But I do have to admit she had good performance in my opinion. I don't think she should've won best new artist. I thought Jazmine Sullivan should've got it.
Keyshia Cole
I was more interested in Monica singing with her. I wasn't even pay attention to Keyshia. On a side note, Can you believe BET is coming out with Frankie and Neffe show?
Ne-Yo
There's no doubt that he was gonna win Best male artist. I also thought he performed too many times. I like his tribute to MJ. He sung Lady in My Life but I don't think him and Jamie should've done "I'll be there". Anyways, I really do feel like this was his year.
Maxwell
When he came out in the 2008 BET Awards I was shocked. This year I felt he did good. He performed "Pretty Wings" I love that song. I'm gonna get his album when it comes out. He had feathers fall from the ceiling.
Soulja Boy
How could they allow him to perform at the BET Awards. I'm sorry but I don't like his music. It was a MJ tribute. Me and brother we talking during his whole performance. What really shocked me was artists better than him were standing up and singing his song. What is the world coming to???
Mary Mary
Their song is one of the few Gospel songs that get played on hip hop stations. I don't listen to Gospel but I do know their song is very hip hop. I loved when Queen Latifah came out. I was not expecting that. She kinda reminded us that she was a rapper. During the Post show she said she has her album "Persona" is coming out in August.
Beyonce
Before she performed Jamie said she went a 180 degrees with her performance. She performed "Ave Maria" from her album. To be honest I didn't like it. I didn't like her album so I didn't like the performance. I was honestly expecting to see her perform "Single Ladies". Oh Well!
Jay-Z
After Beyonce got Best Female Artist Jamie told her to go back to her seat. Now I'm thinking there's gonna be something spectacular. Well...I guess it was Jay-Z. He performed "D.O.A." (Death of Auto Tune) I think that's really funny since most of the people in the audience are using it. On the post show the showed the world premier of" D.O.A."
Drake
Who would've thought that someone with only a mixtape would've acquired so much hype and performing at the BET Awards. He said he tore his ACL so he sat down during the performance. I didn't know he was from Canada but I did know he played Jimmy on Degrassi.
O'Jays
They were given the Lifetime Achievement Award. I guess they asked Don Cornelius to present the award. OMG He talked so slow and so long. I know he's old but come on.
So they had Tevin Campbell sing. When he was singing all I could think about is when he sung Happy B-Day to Ashley on Fresh Prince and when he sung in Goofy Movie. Then they had Trey Songz, Johnny Gill, and Tyrese perform as they young O'jays. I thought Tyrese sounded the best.
Then when the Ojays finally came up and got there award Eddie Levert was reminiscing on MJ. He said "he was singing and dancing and shit" I was cracking up and so was the crowd.
Honorees
This year they honored three groups of people. These are African Americans that greatly help out the black community or have made a difference. I thought it was a great idea and they should continue to do that. They honored Mayor Elect James Young mayor of Philadelphia, Mississsippi, the organization Food from the Hood, and 3 friends that had a pact and became doctors.
Humanitarian Awards
This year they gave 2 humanitarian awards to Alicia Keys and Wyclef. I admired what Wyclef said. He said "I went from a hut, to the projects, to a mansion. There are no excuses."
Other Memorable Moments
For the opening of the show they had New Edition perform a Jackson 5 medley with Bobby Brown. I thought that was really nice. Later in the show Jamie said "Bobby Brown has just left New Edition"
Taraji P. Henson, Tyrese Gibson and Ving Rhames did a little Baby Boy Reunion. Last year it was Boyz in the Hood. I think they should do this every year. When Tyrese first came out I was cracking up. Earlier in the show Taraji said "BET keeps my audience younger with the heavy rotation of Baby Boy" BET does play the same old movies over and over again
Like last year, Ne-Yo brought out his favorite male groups. It was Keith Sweat, Guy, and Bel Biv Devoe. It was really nice to see these old faces again.
Zoe Saldana and Nichelle Nichols which are the new and old Uhuras from Star Trek present Best Female Actress. I thought that was really nice.
I almost cried when Janet Jackson came out to speak on behalf of her family about Michael Jackson. Joe Jackson was sitting in the front row. My heart really goes out to the family.
Jamie opened the show with "Beat it" That was so funny. He tried to lean forward.
Ciara did a tribute by singing "Heal the World" by MJ. It was okay...I guess.
Please comment back. It took me forever. It's summer so I got a lot time on my hands. Please list any moments I forgot or that you liked.
