R&B singing sensation Monica got her start singing alongside her mom at church. By the age of nine, she was touring with a local gospel group, taking command of a powerful voice that could scale multi-octaves with ease. Then, one fateful day, she took a chance and performed live on a local radio show and won an introduction to a producer. The rest, as they say, is history.
At age fifteen, Monica rocked the R&B music scene with her soulful, velvety voice—a sound that distinguished her from the other single moniker singers of the time and helped her debut, Miss Thang, reach platinum status. The sizzling album produced two back-to-back number one hits on Billboard’s R&B Singles chart, giving her the distinction of being the youngest female artist to ever do so.
Not one to rush things, the successful teen took nearly three years to complete her sophomore effort, The Boy is Mine. The wait was well worth it. The album’s title track, a duet with Brandy, was a crossover sensation, spending 13 weeks at number one on the pop charts and earning the singer her first Grammy award. The disc continued to spin out number one hits including “Angel of Mine” and “The First Night,” further cementing Monica’s status as a hit maker.
Riding the crest of her success, Monica began acting and starred in an MTV production called “Love Song” and appeared in the feature film “Girls and Boys.” She eventually returned to the studio to deliver her third album, After the Storm. Reflective, sultry and edgier than her previous releases, this album showcases a grown up Monica, one who is ready to tap into her potency as a singer and songwriter.
Although young in years, Monica has experienced enough to sing about it with blistering emotional conviction. Her performances come from the heart, bathed in a maturity that matches her rich vocal range. From her humble beginnings with a local gospel group to her live performance at the 1996 Olympic Games, Monica has climbed a career ladder most can only dream about. And she’s only just begun.

Thanks!!! By the way......I MET MONICA!!!!! She had a concert in DC and I saw the concert, but I met her later on that evening, I was out at an Outback and she came in. I didn't know until my sister alerted me to it. People came up to her table, but they weren't ghetto...when she was on her way out of the restaurant, she had to walk by my table. I said,"Hey Monica!", and she said "Heeyyyy!" My sister mentioned to Monica that she enjoyed the concert and Monica asked my sister where was it called where she performed. She didn't even know....lol
She was so nice to everybody and the staff of the restaurant was pressed to take a pic with her! When she was about to leave, everybody said, "Bye Monica!" and she said she said, "Bye!"
She really had a southern accent and she looked nice! Her hair wasn't long, it was curled and it looked like it was shorter and she is light!! ;D
