Ya'll, I just had this on my chest and I wanted to vent. I was looking at the Access Granted for LL's new video and there was a scene with all the female dancers and he was talking with them. He said to the camera that all of them had aspirations. He said that they could use being in a video as a stepping stone to movie roles, etc.
I was disguisted. I don't see how being half naked in a video and dancing is a stepping stone to being considered a serious actress. Now I can see it maybe paying the bills and what not, but I don't think that these females will be taken seriously by these men, when they go up for roles, if they have music videos on their resume. (Unless it's a serious type of role.)
Now, I'm not saying that it couldn't be a stepping stone, but out of all those girls that are in the videos, how many of them (Have ya'll seen) that have been on tv or the movies? And if you see them in a movie or on tv, are they playing some serious role, or the role of a hoochie or somewhere along those lines?
I know some of ya'll will probably disagree, but I don't think it's right to glorify women in that way. That's why a lot of these little girls (12,13 years old) dress just like the women in the videos do. Just terrible. ANd they really think these men respect them. NOT!

I agree with you, but then I don't..I know there are a few girls who started off in videos that have made it as successful actresses, namely LisaRaye. She did do the hoochie thing in The Player's Club, but it was also a serious role that led to a lot of other oppurtunites. She even has the versatility to still appear in music videos, not so much as the typical "video ho", and return to movies without being criticized. I love her on "All of Us" too, she has a lot of respect from me..she's the main one I could think of, and this is just my opinion.

Speak on it! I agree 150% with ya! The only video girl I've seen that made somethin' of herself if only for a minute was former "In Living Color" Flygirl, Josie. I rememba seein' her in Michael's "Remember the Time" video, Janet's "That's the Way Love Goes", video and The Lost Boyz' "Renee" video. But she didn't go far as an actress per se, since she only appeared on an episode of "The Wayans Bros." and "Martin". Although her roles for both shows were small, they were decent. But thank goodness she's never felt the need to be all half-naked and stuff in the videos she was in. The only otha video girl that has moved ahead a lil' bit was LisaRaye. Even though her role in "The Player's Club" was filled with showin' too much skin (even though I know that was the purpose of the movie), I as well as some otha people, both male and female, actually ended up likin' her as an actress because, IMO, once you looked past the hoochified scenes, her talent as an actress came shinin' through. But the majority of video girls won't be as lucky to be taken as a serious actress. And you are so right about some of these teen-aged girls walkin' around half-dressed! It's a downright shame! And Jill also said it best in her poem, "The Thickness": "...these lil' girls walkin' around with all this ass and breast that they don't know how to carry yet!" If I don't forget, I'll post the lyrics to this poem in the lyric section lata. Jill brought nothin' but the truth even if it was in graphic detail...
