1 ½ years later…
“I hate your f***ing guts, Jazz!!!”, Maria screamed out while attempting to throw a punch at him.
He caught her hand. “You know you don’t mean that!”, he laughed.
“Yes, I do!!!” She tried reaching with her other hand to hit him, but instead she screamed out in pain once more.
“C’mon, Maria! You’ve got to calm down and push for me!”, the doctor commanded.
Maria cried out, “I can’t!”
“Yes you can, baby. C’mon!”, Jazz reassured her. He couldn’t believe that he was actually witnessing his wife giving birth to their first child. He and Maria had been married for a little over a year, before they found out she was pregnant.
Forty-five minutes later, his son, Larry Anthony, III was introduced to the world.
“Give me my baby, please!”, Maria said breathlessly to the doctor. When she passed Jazz’s son to him, she didn’t know who was crying harder: her, him or their new baby.
“W’sup lil’ man, you and yo’ Ma Ma are both worth fighting for everyday, for the rest of my life!”, he cried.
Maria laughed and kissed Jazz. “I love you, Pa Pa!”
“I love you, Ma Ma!”
Meanwhile everyone was waiting in the waiting room.
Lisa and Tisha had just arrived at the hospital.
“I’m sorry we’re late”, Tisha said as she kissed her new husband, Woody. “We were in the middle of lunch with Kim and Nokio. The traffic this time of day is terrible, so we were stuck in it for a while. They’re parking the car now.”
“It’s aight, we haven’t heard anything from Jazz, yet.”, he replied.
Scola joked, “Sisqo, my man, it won’t be too long before you and Natasha will be up in here!”
“Don’t remind me!”, Natasha said throwing her hand up in the air. “The way Maria was actin’ when she went into labor at our house yesterday scared the hell outta me! I don’t know if I can go through with this!”
Natasha and Sisqo were expecting their first child also. She had found out a few days before that she was almost 3 months pregnant.
“I got Lisa to thank for that!”, Sisqo laughed.
“What you talkin’ ‘bout?!”, Lisa asked, with a look of surprise.
“You know what I mean woman! If you hadn’t got Tasha that job with you down at the ad agency, I mighta lost her for good.”, Sisqo said as he kissed Tasha on her cheek.
Lisa had put in a good word for Tasha at the agency for the position of Fashion and Beauty Advertising Director. Thanks to Lisa, she got the job. But hey that’s what friends were for. Both Tasha and Maria had become good friends with Lisa and her girls. Tasha confided in Lisa one day over lunch that she always hated leaving Sisqo to go on photo assignments out of town. And Sisqo had finally confessed to Scola and Nokio that he was ready to settle down with Tasha and Tasha only.
“Oh boy, yall are like our family now!”, Lisa said as she gave them both a hug.
“Everyone, we have an announcement to make!”, Kim shouted as she and Nokio burst up into the waiting room. “We’ve decided to make our relationship official!”, Kim exclaimed as she showed off her engagement ring.
After the congratulations were done and everyone had settled down a bit, Jazz came walking down the hall grinning from ear-to-ear. “We got a baby yall! He’s 8 lbs. 14 oz.!”
More congratulations went on and before Jazz knew it, he was crying in front of his boys. Something he hadn’t done in a long, long time. Let alone, in front of their fiancés and wives. But no one even cared because it was a happy occasion and it called for happy tears.
“Ooooh, he’s so precious!”, Lisa gushed as Scola held her. They decided to stay at the maternity window longer than the others. Everyone else went up with Jazz to congratulate Maria.
“Yeah, he is isn’t he.”, Scola said as he set his chin on top of her head. “Damn girl! I love your hair this way, but that stuff itches!” He lifted his chin back up to scratch it. Lisa had been wearing her hair in a curly ‘fro after she had her last set of braids removed.
“Yeah, well whateva!”, Lisa laughed. “You don’t mind pulling your fingers through it!”
“I know that’s right!”, he agreed. They both laughed.
Lisa turned around and told him. “You know, I have everything I want. A good career, a good husband, and now I think I’m ready to have a child too!”
“Are you sure?”, he asked with a small grin. He and Lisa had talked about it in the past and they agreed to wait until they had been married for 5 years. After all, having a child would be taking a major step.
“Yeah, I’m sure.”, she said smiling.

The next day, Lisa went to visit Ms. Lucy at the retirement center to let her know that she was finally happy once and for all.
Ms. Lucy had a stroke and was now confined to a wheelchair. But that never stopped her from standing up long enough to give Lisa a hug, if only for a second. “That’s my baby!”, Ms. Lucy cried.
A few weeks later, Ms. Lucy passed from natural causes. But Lisa didn’t grieve much because she knew that Ms. Lucy died knowing that her “baby” was finally in “The Comfort Zone” of her life.
