From where the story last left off
Well, a year and a couple of months have passed. In that time, Tiondra and Tamir have tied the knot and are the proud parents of a beautiful daughter they named Tiara. Tamir is also the father of his and Monica’s son that she named Joshua. Although he and Monica are far from friends, she still allows Tamir to see his son as much as he can. As for everybody else: Shelina and Omarion now live in LA with their two kids and Omarion is finally in the studio working on his debut CD thanks to Marques who is now part CEO of the label that signed Omarion. Mark and Michelle are still acting like damn newlyweds after all of this time and have moved to Jersey with their two kids. In addition, his and Tamir’s group Dru Hill that includes Larry, Rufus, and James are doing very well on the charts.
Now on to myself…I’m continuing to maintain with a new job I love as a marketing exec/designer for an urban fashion-line catering to plus-sized women at affordable prices. The name of the line is So Plush and we’ve been receiving rave reviews for our fashions that have been advertised in Vibe Vixen, Essence, and Seventeen. Now as for Mario, he and I have lost touch within the past six months or so even though he’s back in the states now. I hear he has moved back to Baltimore although he’s still with K Records. But anyway, at first the calls, emails, and text-messages were constantly being exchanged between us until they came to a sudden halt after I kept trying to reach him a couple of times without any response. I made myself accept the fact that he was still very young and was beginning to experience life as it were meant to be without my ol’ ass being a part of it. Besides, he was living high off life right now with two back-to-back #1 singles on the charts as well as various music award nominations for his current CD that has stayed near the top of the charts for a while now. But hey, like Pac says, “Do your thang, boy…I ain’t mad at’cha”.
Anyhoo, Michelle, Mark, Tiondra, Tamir, Shelina, Omarion, Rufus, Larry, and James are gathered together at my place so that we can attend the New York premiere of the latest Martin Lawrence film release. Everybody and their mommas are supposed to be at this premiere too! And guess what else?! My peeps and I are going to be walking the red carpet! Life can’t get any better than this…or can it?
“Glow, are you about ready to roll?” Michelle asked while busting up in my bedroom where I was still checking my reflection in my full-length mirror.
“Yeah, I’m comin’. I juss wanna make sure I look okay,” I replied while turning around to look at myself over my shoulder from the back. I thought about changing clothes for a third time until I could find the right outfit to pose in for the paparazzi especially since I dropped twenty pounds thanks to better eating habits and exercise.
“What are you talkin’ about? You look gorgeous,” she huffed with a roll of her eyes and a shake of her head while looking at me. I was dressed in an asymmetrical-hemmed black halter-top outlined in gold sequins, a pair of denim capris, and a pair of denim, gold-sequined, and black patent-leather pumps all courtesy of the So Plush line.
“I’on’t know.” I took a deep sigh as I turned around to look at her. “I wanna look my best because this night seems so special for some reason.” I walked over to the bed, grabbed a denim cap, and was about to place it on my head then decided against it because I wanted to show off my new spiky short cut.
“Ohhhhhhh…I know what you’re doin’,” Michelle slyly grinned while watching me closely. However, before I could ask her what she was talking about, she spoke again. “You’re hopin’ he’s gonna be there, right?”
“Who?” I snapped while glancing up at her as I decided on which of the handbags I wanted to carry that were strewn all across my bed.
“You know who.”
“Chelle, I DON’T know what you’re talkin’ about,” I huffed with a roll of my eyes as I picked up my choice of handbag. I was making my way over to the bedroom door to leave when she said his name.
“Mario. C’mon, girl…we’re blood so you can be real with me. You still love him don’t you?”
I took a deep breath before turning around to look at her. “Even if I did it doesn’t matter much at this point in time. Now c’mon and let’s be out.”
“Okay,” she sighed with a shrug of her shoulders as she walked out ahead of me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~When our silver Escalade limo pulled up in front of the theatre the crowd was UNBELIEVABLE. Even before I got out, I had already seen some of the biggest names in sports and Hollywood walking inside; Allen Iverson, Tyrese, and Reggie Bush were the ones I immediately recognized.
As soon as we all stepped out, the guys and their wifeys immediately began to walk the red carpet, but stopping long enough to pose for the cameras along the way. Tamir even did a brief interview with a reporter from ET Tonight while never letting go of Tiondra’s hand.
I was standing alone taking everything in when I heard someone approaching me. It was a reporter from BET named Rita Jackson that I did a brief interview with a couple of months ago when the So Plush line was first introduced on their newest fashion program called “Working the Runway” hosted by former “America’s Next Top Model” contestants, Tocarra and Ya-Ya.
“Hi, Glow! You look stunning!” she beamed after rushing over to me with her camera crew.
“Thank you! You do too!” I smiled right after she shoved her microphone in my face. She began asking me questions about the movie as well as the fashion-line when we were interrupted when I felt an arm wrapping around my shoulder. When I looked up, it was my newfound friend in the biz, Nick Cannon.
“Nick! And just what are you up to?!” Rita laughed while I shook my head as I looked in the camera and pointed my thumb at him.
“Ummmm…I came to get my date so we could go on inside because yall have held her up long enough,” he joked while winking at the camera.
“Not in THIS lifetime! We don’t need any new rumors spreadin’,” I laughed while giving him the “negro please” look.
“Okay, BET, you heard it here first…Nick and Glow are NOT a couple according to Glow!” Rita chuckled as she stepped in front of us and faced the camera. While Nick was jokingly trying to talk over her saying it was true, I glanced over to my left and saw Mario and an unknown female stepping out of a white Hummer limo hand-in-hand that they had just pulled up in. I politely excused myself from the reporter and Nick and began to make my way inside although I had to play it cool and pose for a couple of pictures.
About five or ten minutes later after making my way inside the lobby, I was met by my girls and they all informed me of the same thing: Mario was here! I told them that I had already seen him and didn’t care even though I knew I was lying through my teeth BIG TIME.
When I was finally able to get them out of my hair after the guys came back over to them to escort them inside the theatre, I was about to make a quick run to the restroom when I felt a gentle pull on my hand. Turning around, I looked up into Mario’s eyes. I wanted to say something, anything, but was at a loss for words.
“So aren’t you gonna say you’re happy to see me?” he asked with the grin that STILL has the same effect on me. Had it not been for him holding my hand I probably would’ve lost my balance.
“I don’t know…should I be happy to see you after all of this time?” I watched as his grin slowly faded away from his face.
“We need to go somewhere and talk,” he sighed as we continued to gaze at each other.
“I don’t think your little GIRLFRIEND would like that though,” I replied in a salty tone while throwing a cold glare her way although she didn‘t see us.
Mario quickly glanced over in her direction and became amused as he watched her looking for him. “That girl ain’t nobody,” he smirked as he looked at me once again. “C’mon…there’s gotta be a way out near the back somewhere.” He didn’t even give me a chance to protest before he swiftly wrapped his arm around my waist as we scurried through the crowd while luckily being unnoticed.
For several minutes, we stood alone in a dark hall while waiting for everyone to gather inside the theatre. As we stood there, Mario pulled out his phone and called up his limo driver ordering him to pull around to the rear of the building and that we’d be out in a couple of minutes.
“This is crazy,” I huffed as I glanced down at my watch. “All of my peoples are inside waiting on me. I gotta go. We’ll have to talk some otha time.” Just as I was about to walk away, Mario pinned my back up against the cold brick wall and proceeded to give me an intoxicating kiss. When it was over, I found myself catching my breath back as he pulled back far enough to look at me.
“You still gotta go?” he asked while softly running his thumb across my bottom lip.
Since I was too flustered to answer, we were about to share another kiss until my phone started playing Janet's “Call on Me”. When I pulled it from my purse’s clip and looked at the display it read Michelle’s name and number. Without thinking twice about it, I put my phone on ignore.
“So w’sup with you not accepting anymore of my calls?” I bluntly asked while looking into his eyes and searching for an answer.
“I’ma be truthful with you, Glow. The people working around me didn’t think being with you was good for my image because my fan-base is made up of mostly females. They began to run this shit on me about I’d lose album sales and popularity if I kept bringing you up in interviews and stuff and after a while my dumb-ass started to believe it. And then when I had to lie in the interview I did with ‘Rolling Stone’ a couple of months ago and say I was as free as a bird when asked about my love life, I figured that you must’ve read it and didn’t want to talk to me anymore or even if you did we’d just end up in a big argument about it.”
For a brief moment I stared at Mario in pure disbelief. Then I went off.
“You really know how to flatter yourself don’t’chu? You really got me confused with these lil’ chickenheads thinkin’ that I’d actually be upset about somethin’ like THAT?! Mario? Did you forget that I’ve been workin’ in this business for a while now and I know the ins and outs of things so if you REALLY thought I’d be upset and want to argue with you then maybe you do need to be around someone your own age who would obviously not be mature enough to understand these things. I’m outta here!” I turned and marched back out into the lobby and out the doors where I was greeted outside by a few photographers who began to flash cameras left and right. But I was so pissed as I marched down the red carpet towards the curb where I was going to hail down a taxi that I didn’t even care.
The whole time this was going on, I didn’t know that Mario had come out behind me and was pushing his way through the various reporters, cameramen, and photographers trying to get my attention. Even though I heard him call out my name several times, I didn’t even bother to turn around; well that is until he said something that made everyone outside either gasp or become silent.
“Glow, I still love and want to be with you!!!”
I became as still as a statue while I looked out at nothing.
“Glow, please!” I could hear Mario’s voice getting closer and closer.
I slowly turned around with tears in my eyes as I bit my bottom lip. Although Mario and I were surrounded by dozens of microphones and cameras it was as if he and I were the only two standing there.
Then from out of nowhere I began to cry as Mario and I grabbed each other up in a big hug before sharing a kiss right there in front of everyone…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Thank you so much for the interview. It was very entertaining AND romantic,” the reporter from Essence magazine smiled as Mario and I escorted her and one of the magazine’s photographers that accompanied her to our front door. The magazine would be covering a special edition Valentine’s Day issue on next month. The story on how Mario and I met would be placed in an article along with other couples in the entertainment business stories on how they met.
“It was our pleasure,” I smiled back as we shook hands with them. “Can’t wait to read the full article.”
“Great! We’ll give you a call to come down to the office as soon as the photos are printed so you two can choose which ones you’d like for us to use. Bye.”
“Bye,” Mario and I both chimed at the same time before I closed the door behind them.
“That was pretty cool,” he said as he stretched while following me back into the den where we both flopped down on the sofa next to one another.
“Yeah it was,” I agreed with a nod of my head. “But you know what would be even betta than that?” A sly grin spread across my face as I playfully threw my leg that was closest to him across his lap.
“What?” he smirked.
“You know what,” I giggled as I quickly sat up until I was facing him on his lap.
He threw his head back and let out a deep sigh. “C’mon, Glow. Now THAT again,” he whined before lifting his head back up to look at me.
“Awww, pweeeeeeeeeeze! Pree-dee pree-dee pweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze!” I wrapped my arms around his waist while raining kisses all over his face and neck.
“Alright! Alright! You win! Damn!” He and I both began to laugh as we looked at each other after I let up with the kisses. I bit my bottom lip although I was smiling the second he started singing “Let Me Love You” even though he kept jokingly rolling his eyes.
“Put a lil’ more feelin’ into it, man!” I commanded while leaning in closer to him.
“I’ma put a lil’ more feelin’ into it alright,” he huffed while maneuvering us around until he was on top of me. After we shared a quick laugh in between kisses, I lay silent and stared up at him for a moment as I ran my thumb back and forth across one of his eyebrows until he spoke.
“What are you so deep in thought about?” he asked.
“Nothin’ except how much I love you,” I smiled.
He smiled back before lowering his lips back down onto mine.
